The Waves of Courage Club was created to provide children with disabilities not just swimming lessons, but lifelong skills that promote health, confidence, and resilience. While this was a one-time event, the program aspires to nurture talented swimmers who may one day compete at national and international stages.

Parents, teachers, and community members gathered alongside board members and dignitaries to cheer on the young athletes. Dasho Dechen Wangmo, President of Special Olympics Bhutan, addressed the participants and audience, sharing a vision for the program’s enduring impact:

“Waves of Courage is more than a swimming program—it is a bridge to opportunity. We see here the beginnings of stronger, healthier children who may one day represent Bhutan on international platforms. This journey depends on the unwavering support of parents, whose encouragement helps children develop skills that last a lifetime. Our mission is not only to empower every child through sport, but to ensure that every child—regardless of ability—can share in the joy, discipline, and friendship it brings.”

The day’s activities emphasized resilience, teamwork, and joy, fostering a sense of belonging both in and out of the pool. Though the event lasted only a single afternoon, its impact is expected to ripple far beyond—changing attitudes, strengthening community bonds, and creating opportunities for children with disabilities to thrive.
